The Highest Truth Is to See Ourselves in Others

The highest truth is to see yourself in all other beings and all other beings in yourself. Separateness is an illusion, the truth is we are all connected. The clothes on our backs are made by hands around the world belonging to hundreds of people we’ll never meet. The food we eat is taken from the earth and other animals in countries we don’t think about. We are inherently dependent on other humans and all other beings and the way we live doesn’t force us to see that. When we work to see these connections, we live in deeper truth.

We must know that to hurt another person is to hurt ourselves. To leave another homeless is to wish homelessness on ourselves. To inflict violence on others is to inflict violence on ourselves. To allow war to be waged by our country is to wage war on our souls. Let’s take responsibility for our place in this universe, this world, this country, and this community. Let’s recognize our part in the circle of being for when we do that, together we can create a better and more just world.
