“You look at people and you think you know their story—maybe someone in power or authority—and they seem so different from you. They could also be very much like you, have a lot of similar experiences and struggles and challenges.”

Judge Tara Flanagan joined youth and staff for a leadership seminar, discussing how to lead by example and how to use struggle, adversity and shattered dreams to advantage in transforming ourselves to become leaders and makers of change in our communities and country.

Flanagan is a judge of the California Superior Court in Alameda County. She has decades of experience as an attorney, in family and juvenile court. She is President-elect of the prestigious International Associate of LGBTQ Judges.

ICL continues to turn on a dime with increased online classes and sessions during the shelter-in-place order. We are bringing experts from around the world with feet-on-the-ground experience in organizing, civic engagement and public service together with our youth and staff.

This is an excellent time to study the relevance and importance of transforming ourselves to make change in the world.
