Overprioritizing individualism is killing our children. The human race is taking humanities out of schools. These are moral crimes on humanity.
Leaders today are so broke in the marketplace of kindness and empathy. We cannot engineer anything to improve the lives of people in classrooms by leveling schools in wartime.
We are not creative, nuanced beings when we have no clue about how humans communicate feelings and ideas. Teaching humanities keeps the human in humanity amidst forces of darkness—like racism.
In its most harmful evolution, racism isn’t individual action; a slur hurled, or prejudice; the fear of a skin tone. It is the very roots that sprouted this broken society. Every struggle in minority communities is the sum of our historical and contemporary context. A debt growing exponentially.
“Black people are poor” is a statement on our national stage that holds truth and ignorance. Fascism blames character, culture, and genetics as predisposition to this pattern of poverty. The reality is that ever since somebody’s Black family was sold, beaten, excluded, unsupported, grieved, created things, were robbed of those creations, and killed en masse, systemic oppressors have pushed the trajectory of Black people toward poverty.
To reach liberation, to remedy the wounds of systematic oppression, we the people must recognize the reality of our collective history and how old and deep these wounds cut. Our country is struggling with its humanity because of what it changes in its sleep and wakes up to forget. America fights for America, not Americans. It is for these same reasons the American dream does not exist not because of a lack of wealth, but from a lack of care for its people.
We must speak when representatives don’t represent us, learn what isn’t taught, say what isn’t listened to. Okay-ness is the enemy to recognizing anything wrong going on in the world. Okay-ness is permission for it to happen.
Take action, especially when action isn’t taken by others.
