We live in a crisis of joy. Forces of darkness drain us of hope. Young people from the ghetto are sent on a failing mission straight toward their demise. Being a part of something larger than oneself is life-changing. There is great liberation that comes from transforming oneself in the context of other selves. Young people must be provided the opportunity to transform themselves by the local and national leaders who govern them.
Cultivating a generation of transformed nonconformists takes getting the youth to study as much as they take action. Action without study is a mere expression of energy, and flows toward aimlessness. A young person can be mobilized for a community service event or a demonstration, but they will not go home knowing their responsibility to inform others of the significance of what they’ve done unless trained to do so.
Training youth to be surgeons of the soul means allocating funds and manpower toward programs of social uplift in our local
communities. We can only reach the beloved community with ties between the youth’s household, school, and community organizations being firm and tight.
Struggle for hope brittles away with keeping a foot in the community, and from the concrete of despair a rose can bloom. The youth can very well lead this movement for freedom and liberation of the mind when seasoned organizers let out the hand of both a teacher and a student. Every day our legislators & executives, as well as community organizers, put in place resources for young people to raise their consciousness, is a day that our young people thrive.
